Rock Climbing Engagement Session in North Carolina

A couple is rock climbing on a rock face, they are connected to ropes and are perched on the rock face, looking at each other.

Have you ever thought about doing something unique and adventurous like rock climbing for your engagement photos?! Well Kyler and Kate are proof that you can do anything for your engagement session! Your engagement session is a perfect opportunity to try something different, create new memories, and bond as a couple. Kyler and Kate had never even been rock climbing before but decided this would be a fun way to bond and get some cool photos for their session. I couldn’t agree more.

While logistically for a photographer this can be complicated, I was totally up for the challenge. Fortunately they picked an incredible guide of Fox Mountain Guides who lead them in climbing and also helped me get great shots along the way….and not just from the ground! While they climbed, I was also harnessed in and climbing the rock wall with my camera.

Understandably, Kyler and Kate also wanted some photos without the helmets and harnesses so they changed into some cute clothes and we captured a few more portraits of them in the park. You can choose an adventurous activity and also spend some time capturing regular portraits as well!

I hope this session encourages you to think outside the box and try something different for your engagement photos! You also don’t have to pick an activity new to you, you could choose to incorporate your current hobbies into your session.

Wondering what is possible? Here are some more ideas to consider for your unique engagement photos:

  • Horse back riding

  • Go skateboarding

  • Take a pottery class

  • Baking in your home

  • A sailboat ride

  • A hot air balloon ride

  • Hire a picnic company for a luxury picnic

  • Camping and a bonfire

  • Ride bikes

  • Go to your local carnival

  • Choose a water activity like kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding

  • Go for a walk in your neighborhood

  • Go to an art museum
