Little Molas Lake Engagement Session in Silverton Colorado
The San Juan Mountains are covered in epic locations fit for an adventurous wedding, elopement or engagement session. In the southwest corner of Colorado you can find jagged peaks, stunning alpine lakes, lush meadows and everything in between. For Jordan and Tyler’s engagement session we planned to explore Little Molas Lake just outside of the tiny town of Silverton, Colorado.
Little Molas Lake is the smaller less popular lake right by Molas Lake. Smaller yes, but still surrounded by breathtaking views and offers more privacy which is a huge plus. It is accessible from the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway, also nicknamed the Million Dollar Highway and in the summers the alpenglow on the mountains around the lake is perfection.
How to Plan your Session at Little Molas Lake
Little Molas Lake is the perfect location for big reward with no effort, and especially convenient if you want to get out on the water. Given the accessibility of the campground, once you park and step out of your car, you have ample picturesque spots to choose from and every direction offers amazing views. You really simply just need to pick a date! Once you’ve done that you can consider incorporating a variety of activities. The campground offers water access for SUP, kayaks and canoes, free fishing, picnic tables, and of course camping which you could do and plan for a bonfire and s’mores! Note that swimming is not allowed and if you need to rent a SUP, kayak or canoe, you can do so at Molas Lake.
Jordan and Tyler wanted the chance to go paddle boarding for their session for a little low key adventure that reflected their adventurous relationship. As the sun set the lake was as smooth as glass and they got to enjoy the most serene paddle board session on the lake. It was so quiet you hardly knew there was anyone else around besides the lone fly fisher.
Little Molas is quite unique in the fact that it is so easily accessible, super close to town and yet still offers some privacy and peace and quiet. If you’re looking for a laid back location with incredible scenery for a relaxing portrait session in the San Juan Mountains, Little Molas Lake is the perfect option!
