Romantic Canoe Engagement Session
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions? Being able to plan a fun activity! I always encourage couples to pick something to do for their session for a few reasons. One, you already nervous and this can help you focus on something else. Two, you’re making memories. Three, you get to try something, have a fun date, or do something that is meaningful for you two and your relationship. Kristin’s mom has a lake house where they have spent plenty of time together and have taken the canoe out on many occasions. So when we started chatting about ideas for their session and she mentioned this all to me, it made perfect sense to incorporate it into their engagement session.
We met up early in the morning while the fog hovered over the lake. We plopped two canoes in the water and paddled around surrounded by the fall leaves October brings. It was so familiar to them that they were immediately comfortable. Plus, canoeing does take some focus haha, so while Kristin and Mike paddled, I got to photograph them from the land and then from my own canoe. After we retired the canoes we went to a near by trail for some more photos. I love being able to hike with my clients too because it gives us a chance to talk and get to know each other in a very relaxed way.
There is a misconception that your whole session is a full hour of smiling at the camera while I take a gazillion photos. I promise that is not the case! And while I know getting in front of the camera is always a little nerve wracking, planning an activity definitely helps with the nerves and makes the time fly by. Engagement sessions are an opportunity for you two to focus on all that you are celebrating with the upcoming wedding, get to really know your photographer, feel comfortable in front of a camera and have some fun too!
