Foggy and Moody Elopement at Wiseman's View
Jen and Taylor are proof that you can still have an epic day even if it rains. Even if the fog is so dense you can’t see more than 3 feet in front of you. Checking the radar all evening the night before their sunrise elopement, we finally decided to call it and forgo sunrise. Well more like, sunrise forwent us. We set our alarms for a bit later and enjoyed the extra hours of sleep. We woke to a faint drizzle and insanely thick fog as we drove up the mountain. While we planned for their elopement to be at Wiseman’s View Overlook you would have no idea where we were that day based no the images. But Jen and Taylor barely seemed disappointed. All they cared about was at the end of the day, being able to call each other, husband and wife.
To make it up the road it requires some intense 4x4 driving especially after the heavy rains we had, so leaving our tiny sedan behind, we hopped in the car with Jen and Taylor. Jen was in the back seat wrapped in a puffy jacket as she didn’t want to reveal her dress before their first look. After Taylor got us up the steep road, we set them up for their first look with the entire trailhead to ourselves. After drying her tears in the visor mirror, we took the short walk to the overlook that typically offers sweeping mountain views. We setteled in among the trees and while the rain mostly held off, the fog enveloped us. If we went more than a few yards from each other it was hard to see.
Jake, my husband and second shooter, recently became ordained to officiate a friends wedding. Now for the second time he was able to officiate for one of my couples weddings! Jake read their custom ceremony script and two of their close friends joined in and prayed over them.
While I would expect any couple to be disappointed in the lack of views and rain drizzle, Jen and Taylor continued to smile and enjoy every moment. After we left Wiseman’s View Overlook we headed to their AirBnB for a few fun cabin photos at the epic A frame (one of many unique airbnb’s have in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains!). After we wrapped up portraits I let them head inside while I took their rings to do some fun detail shots. After a few minutes I went back to the cabin to find them already changed into their sweats and eating take out their friends had brought them! They were so excited to spend the day completely on their own, cozied up in their cabin, before getting pizza for dinner in town that night! Sounded like a brilliant plan to me.
